How do you Evaluate Used Trucks?
June 30, 2009
Purchasing any used vehicle comes with its share of risks. You never know if you are getting value for your money. When it comes to buying used trucks there are a number of steps that can be taken to ensure that you get a quality vehicle.
Evaluating a used truck can include the following:
There are a number of helpful internet sites designed to educate the consumer about specific used vehicles. For instance, Consumer Guide Automotive provides reliable information, reviews, and ratings on thousands of used cars, trucks, SUVs, and minivans. Doing research beforehand can really help when selecting a used truck.
Read reviews about used trucks that include an evaluation of a truck’s specifications. As well, there are many online sites that rank used vehicles which can be very helpful when selecting a used truck. Some makes and models are a better quality than others. You should find out which used trucks are the most reliable. Look for details about brakes and suspension, radiator and cooling system, and the gearbox and clutch.
You should request a vehicle history report. Auto dealership sites provide this type of information and used truck sales companies should also be able to provide you with the information. When dealing with a used truck dealership, make sure you know how much you are willing to spend. When calculating your budget, make sure you include insurance, registration fees, and any taxes you will have to pay.
Mileage is an important aspect of evaluating a used truck. Used trucks that average more than 12,000 miles per year are considered ‘high mileage’ vehicles. It is important to ask if the truck’s accumulated mileage is from highway or urban driving. Town and city driving tend to cause more wear and tear on a truck.
The condition of the exterior of the vehicle is an important factor to consider. You should look for dents, scratches, paint touch ups, rust, and any extensive body work that has been done on the truck. Ask for a history of maintenance work that has been done on the truck. If new parts have been installed, make sure there is a warranty. Don’t purchase a truck that has not been recently inspected.
Don’t buy a specialty used truck. You want to make sure that your used truck is common so that you do not have any problems acquiring any used parts.
The mechanical features of a used truck are another aspect that should be considered. Stick shifts tend to be rougher on a cars engine and performance. As well, diesel fueled vehicles have motors that last longer than gasoline fueled engines. Make sure that you test-drive the truck at different speeds so that you get a feel for the quality of the engine, transmission, and breaks.
Incidental factors that affect the value of a used truck include how well certain features operate such as the air conditioning, heater, radio, seat belts, gear shift, and windows.
Look under the truck for fluid spots. A puddle of fluid can indicate there is a leak somewhere. Also, make sure that you look underneath to check for rusty pipes and mechanical devices.
Each year, more than a million used trucks are put on the market. The chances are that you will not have a problem finding a truck in your price rage. However, the key is to arm yourself with the right knowledge so that you don’t get stuck with a lemon.
The Secrets Of Quick Paintless Dent Removal Techniques
June 30, 2009
In the fine art of paintless dent removal, it is much more tricky and complicated that you would think it is. It not only requires good training skills, it also requires the special touch.
The tools used for this procedure are long and delicate, to allow access to difficult to reach places. One wrong move can cause a wrinkle in the surface, making a highpoint that is visible when looking at the smoothness of the surface.
Wrinkled metal is one of the most difficult, if not, almost impossible repairs to do, it all depends on the force of the slip. Most often you get one chance only in paintless dent removal, it is a finesse job that requires great skill, combined with a lot of knowledge and a gentle touch.
Gaining Access When doing paintless dent removal, the first thing that has to be done is to gain access, whether it is the hood, roof, door, trunk, or quarter panel. Once access is gained, you have to select the right tool, not forgetting the length, tip size and diameter when you are selecting that tool.
Starting the Repair Once you have started the repair, delicate, and precise movements are required, many times over, it?s the repetition that works the area. The metal can?t be pushed, it has to be “coaxed” back into its original position, and ?coaxed” is the right word being you can only remove small amounts of metal at a time. There are four major types of damage, and different ways to repair each of them. The standard dent is reversed by a massaging action at the center. For a crease, you use work from left to right, while gently applying. If you start with the smallest dent you can repair double rings can be repaired by starting.
The best way to start with is the smaller area then move to the larger one. Once you have repaired about 90 % of the damage, then you need to work on the distortion evident in the larger dent.
The trick of doing the actual repair is to get the light right on the painted side of the surface. You have already got your tool in place from the other side and now you are ready to get into the finer work.
You need to find the precision point of the tip of the tool. To do this shining the light in the same direction stand perpendicular to the crease. Don’t work at an angle as the surface will look distorted. Looking for the tool tip is like stretching a piece of foil and running your fingernail across it from the other side. When you are repairing the surface, you can see the tool tip you gently move it back and forth, much like the fingernail example. Start at the center, and apply pressure steadily, in finite strokes. The larger the dent, the less pressure you need.
Completing The Job. If you did have to make a hole to gain entry, apply sealant as a paint protector and continue to mend the hole.

CNG Conversions Really Are Good For Your Car!
June 29, 2009
Many people have wondered if there is any other option besides hybrid vehicles that they can drive that is cheaper than regular gas and that is better for the environment. Well the truth of the matter is that there are many different alternative fuel options available.
The first option is a cng vehicle, whether it be factory made or a vehicle with a cng conversion kit installed. Chrysler and GM stopped making factory cng vehicle in 2004. They did this because they found a loop hole in the alternative fuel law by creating E85 Flex Fuel cars.
If you can’t find a factory made cng bi fuel car the next option is to add on a cng conversion kit to your vehicle. These kits pay for themselves within a couple of years because of how much money you will save from running your vehicle on natural gas instead of regular petrol. These kits also come with second on board computers that can really maximize mpg, engine power, and engine life.
CNG cars are really better for the environment than hybrid vehicles. Natural gas burns 90% cleaner than gasoline. This clean burning means your engine will last a long long time before giving out. Natural gas is also all made in the USA. By buying natural gas you are no longer relying on the big foreign oil companies to power America’s cars.
Dual Fuel vehicle mean that a car can run off of natural gas and with the flip of a switch it can run on regular gas. These bi fuel vehicles are ideal because if you are ever in an area that does not have a cng fill station, you can still drive your car. Bi fuel vehicles still have a much longer lasting engine life than that of a regular gasoline car.
Because of the large number of cng conversion kits on the market, be careful and make sure you have done some research before installing a kit. We have several articles and pages of information on our website.
Car Insurance Tips for Young Drivers
June 29, 2009
One of the biggest days in any teen’s life is the day they get their driver’s license. But with that tiny piece of plastic arrive huge responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is auto insurance. Every newly licensed driver must arrange for adequate auto coverage.
But car insurance for teen drivers can be very expensive. Teen drivers are considered high risk drivers due to their inexperience, which means they can expect to pay high rates for their insurance premiums. Don?t let that stop you from earning your driver?s license, though. With careful planning, teen drivers can find ways to save money on car insurance.
The first thing a teen driver needs to do is to get several quotes. These quotes should come from licensed insurance providers. Different companies define teenage risk in different ways, which means one company may charge you a lot while another company may only charge you a little. There is a lot of competition in the insurance trade, and an insurer who knows you are talking to a competitor, might, just might, be willing and able to offer you a lower premium. But you have to ask, and you have to be willing to negotiate. Fortunately, the Internet makes doing insurance research and shopping for premiums a lot easier than it used to be.
Also, if you have not already done so, look into taking basic driver ed or defensive driving. Passing these courses shows insurance companies that you are serious about safe driving, and allows them to lower you risk level when assessing your driving record for computing your insurance premium. Talk to a licensed agent about what courses are available that qualify you for an insurance discount.
Ask your agent if your company offers discounts to good students or students belonging to a club or organization. See if they extend a discount if your parents belong to a club or organization. Inquire about other possible discounts. This is where it’s helpful to check on the net before you see your agent.
Another way to get a great discount on your car insurance is bundling. If you parents have home or life coverage, sometimes their insurance providers will bundle all your policies and offer a discount. Sometimes this discount can be really substantial. And check whether the insurance company offers discounts to household that have multiple drivers or own multiple cars. This is another terrific way to lower your car insurance costs.
You should be fully informed about insurance (and, usually, fully insured) before you take your driving test. You authorized insurance agent can answer any questions you have and make you get all the coverage you need. You will have to take some time to do your research, but the money you will save on your premiums will make the effort worthwhile.
Hydrogen For Cars Represents Way The Ahead
June 29, 2009
With gas prices soaring to outrageous levels every possible replacement or alternative to our dependence on fossil fuels is being closely evaluated. and this extend to the highly financed energy commissions through to the everyday consumer looking to get more mileage from their gas tank. Hydrogen for cars not only offers us the opportunity to explore new energy horizons, it also opens up tremendous possibilities for us to improve the way we travel altogether.
Hydrogen gas is an important contender to replace fossil fuels as an energy source for combustion engines. It can be found in most things including water to the compost heap in your backyard. The high degree of availability makes hydrogen gas a valuable and attractive resource to consider.
The methods for the production of hydrogen for cars vary greatly, but all are more efficient and cleaner than fossil fuel production. For example a refinery for gasoline production that would require three hundred billion gallons of water to produce gasoline, would be require one million gallons of water if it were producing the same amount of hydrogen.
The equivalent gallon of gas to hydrogen costs roughly half the price of gasoline while yielding over two thirds better fuel economy. Hydrogen for cars also reduces engine operating temperatures and virtually eliminating emissions and the dreaded carbon footprint.
Due to the limited availability of hydrogen fuel to power our cars, it is not practical to increase production of hydrogen-fueled vehicles. And, while some fueling stations are a possibility, the reality of the situation is that the limited availability of hydrogen fuel does not make it a viable, affordable alternative at this time.
An explosion of new vehicle designs will emerge when hydrogen fuel powered cars become the standard in the automobile industry. The electricity to power these vehicles would be generated within a much smaller engine from the hydrogen fuel, thereby eliminating many of the limitations imposed not only by the size of gasoline engines, but also those restrictions based on the heat produced by a gasoline engine. Limitations from designing around current driveline equipment would also be eliminated by the new hydrogen-fueled vehicles.
Clean, cost effective and environmentally safe, hydrogen is the fuel of our future. As hydrogen production increases and becomes more available, fueling stations will open and we will reap the savings and environmental benefits of using hydrogen for cars. So, as the gas prices see little chance of going back to old lows, the advancement of hydrogen fuel technology will continue apace as more money is put into research and development by governments and corporations alike.
One Way Car Rentals in Australia
June 29, 2009
Australia is a vast and spacious country with many delightful and beautiful sights to see. Once travelers arrive in Australia, they usually have a great number of places that they want to see in a short amount of time. Therefore, a rental car becomes a great choice. Some try to travel by taxi cab, but this is not a very reliable means of getting around as the cabs are usually very busy. For instance, finding a taxi at the airport can be very frustrating and who wants to spend their first few hours of their vacation standing in the airport trying to wrangle a cab?
When it comes to car rentals, most companies will do their best to please the customer and meet their needs. One of the ways they do this is to offer one-way rental services. This is especially handy in Australia due to the long distances between coastlines and communities. By using a rental, especially one-way rental, it allows you to travel at your own pace and enjoy you vacation at a leisurely rate instead of having to stick to tight schedules.
The term, one-way rental, simply means that you can rent a vehicle at one location, and once you are finished with the car, you can drop it off at a different rental location, as long as its at a branch belonging to the same rental company. There are usually fees charged for this convenience which will depend on the rental companys policies and rental packages This fee helps to pay for the company to have the vehicle returned to its original car lot.
Many times you can arrange your car rental directly at the airport upon your arrival in Australia. Regardless of where you rent or what company you rent from. Make sure that you review the agreement fully with the staff before leaving the office. Some regulations can be different in Australia than other countries so play it safe by making sure that you understand all the terms of the contract. There can also be a variety of add-ons to the rental package, most of course involving fees, so if you are on a tight budget check the add-on and only get the ones that you really want and need.
Unfortunately, not many of the local car rental companies offer one-way rentals; especially if they are small, locally owned, and operated rental companies. It would be impractical and too expensive for them to operate in that fashion and they would soon find themselves out of business if they tried. The inconvenience of trying to find a way to get the car returned to them would simply be too time-consuming and costly, as well as a logistics nightmare.
National chains of car rental companies do offer this service throughout all of Australia. There are so many reasons to offer one way car rentals, and such a large demand for it, that the large companies would be considered foolish to refuse to offer such a service. It is important to shop around if time permits so that you can obtain the best one way car rental deal. You will not be limited to just one or two companies to choose from and each will offer a variety of package options as well as vehicle style and sizes.
Because Australia has a number one way car rental companies, you will not have a problem securing a rental. Once you find a car rental company whose policies and deals suit your needs, plot your course and drive to your first destination, and enjoy the sights and sounds of this astonishingly beautiful country.
Used Car Financing Tips
June 28, 2009
Car loans are turning out to be the main lender of capital to people who want to buy cars but are short of funds. Usually now days with advent of loan marketing, loans are provided on the spot to customers who want to purchase a car, and it depends upon the customer to take or choose the different offers that are being made to them by the loan companies.
It doesn’t matter if the cars are being sold from the showroom or the sales lot, the terms and rate of the loans being offered are usually fairly competitive between the various loan companies. The customer is always free to find another financier if not satisfied with what is being offered so there is a lot of competition between lenders for the business.
Loans for used cars are not as competitive as for new cars. Terms and rates are usually different from one company to the next as it is more up to their discretion.
Therefore, it is advised that before taking or choosing a loan the customer should properly research the rates that are prevailing in the market. He or she should not jump at once to grab a loan merely because the rate offered is low. There are bound to be companies which offer better rates. The customer should go through all the programs and then apply for a used car loan that suits him the best. And if no loan suits his interest then he can always go back to the first loan that was offered to him at a low rate of interest.
A customer can register online or can go and directly collect the forms. The person should however compare the loan rate that is being offered to him. The customer can search online for the prevailing market loan rates; or rather collect the rates directly from a local lender. This way he will have an idea of the lowest rate offered. Before taking up a loan however, the customer should also take into consideration, the number of months for repayment.
Online lenders are available to loan money on used cars at competitive interest rates, sometimes lower than the rates offered by local banks. They are in the business of loaning money for used cars so do not reject such loan applications.
So the advice here is that the used car buyer must do thorough research regarding loan terms and rates available to get the best financing possible.
Driving School: Are You Being Ripped Off?
June 28, 2009
Many people waste time and money learning nothing at a driving school. They grumble later and forget about a driver’s license altogether! You must have heard from friends starting off with great enthusiasm at a driving school only to give you hopeless reviews a week later. My neighbor quit in only three lessons. She was completely put off by the ramshackle car the driving school sent her out in to practice and could not feel comfortable with her instructor. She said her instructor chatted more on the cell phone than really bother about teaching her. Don’t get tricked at a driving school.
How you benefit from a driving school depends a lot on you as an individual too. Are you a fast learner and are you mechanically more naturally adept than other people? Many factors impact the benefits you derive from lessons at a driving school. But no matter what, there is nothing in a driving test that you cannot eventually clear. A driving school can prepare you in three weeks’ time for a $400 fee to take any driving test. This course will include both practical and theoretical lessons.
The best way to decide what duration of lessons and course will suit you is to have a detailed discussion with the instructor before you begin. If possible, also discuss with your instructor what each session will focus on and what vehicle the school is going to assign to you for practice.
All discussions about lessons should include clear facts about the time to be spent in the classroom and that to be spent in the car. Do not underrate the theory classes as not only will these give you more confidence about handling the vehicle but you cannot go for a practical test for your license without clearing the theory test first. A theory evaluation lasts about an hour and includes multiple-choice questions about rules, road signs etc.
Supplement your driving school work with some of the many good guidebooks available in the market on traffic rules, signs, safety measures etc. These must be studied to enhance the benefit of your theory lessons at the driving school. During your course, you can also request your driving school to help you obtain small booklets with brief tips which can be kept as reference material in your car.
Supplementing your theoretical knowledge is important because it improves your chances of being safe on the roads. Accidents are as likely to take place because of lack of understanding a road sign as because of practical mishandling of a vehicle. Theoretical lessons begun before you start practical training is always a good idea because they give you confidence and help you train on the road better. Many schools suggest taking theoretical lessons after practical ones which is not very beneficial for learners.
Some driving schools focus on teaching groups on a residential basis. If several members of your family wish to enroll together for lessons, you can consider this option at your local club or community organization. For individuals, practical driving lessons can be in the basic or intensive category. Intensive category is for those very short on time or who have earlier taken the basic lessons. As a complete beginner, the basic category of lessons is ideal for you. Most driving school instructors suggest enrolling for practical lessons by adding 60 minutes for every year of your age. In a three-week course, you can cover about ten practical driving hours.
Learning to drive whether for individual or professional needs is always a good idea but landing up with the wrong driving school or getting put off mid-way during a course can be as much your fault as the instructor’s. Many people enjoy driving as a hobby and having learnt it at a good school enhances the experience. Many youngsters even take up driving professionally as an interim earning option before beginning a full-time career. Choose the right school, persevere and no driving school can drive you nuts. What you will finally do obtain is your driver’s license!
