Electric Scooters Types And Buying Tips
August 15, 2009
The electric scooters work with the aid of motors and batteries that make them easy for traveling. While a variety of switches control speed [on/off or variable], the bicycle hand brakes are installed on the handlebars to keep the electric scooters under control. The batteries are generally placed beneath the feet thereby easing travel further. The speed of these scooters often vary dramatically ranging from below 10 mph for inexpensive import scooters to over 30 mph for the highest-speed scooters.
Types of electric scooters: From amongst a dozen of electric scooters available in the market, the three most representative examples include: Zappy ” this scooter can carry a rider 4-5 miles at just 10-12 mph speed limit. Flyer ” the Phat Flyer provides 5-8 mile range and 15 mph speed limit at the expense of portability. Voloci ” this looks and gives the feel of a moped. It includes special features like selectable performance models, quick-swap battery packs, keyed ignition for added security and state-of-charge indicators.
When electric scooters were first introduced to the market, manufacturers had designed them to meet the needs of disabled people. They were ideal for individuals who experienced partial immobility, limb movement restrictions and/or had pain when required to stand or walk for longer periods. In due course of time, electric scooters gained popularity amongst a larger group of people. This includes kids, adults, elderly people and industrial workers. The obvious factors that go behind labeling the best electric scooters are dependent upon their unique features and attributes, and people?s specific needs and requirements.
Considerations involved with choosing the best electric scooters may also be attractive exteriors, enhanced brakes and removable seats. Others may consider folding electric scooters to be the best. Younger buyers may vote for off road electric scooters that are fitted with larger tires and have more sport-like capabilities. Others may consider mini electric scooters to be the best. What may be best for a particular buyer may not be as viable for another but all purchases are made keeping in mind budget restraints and usefulness of an electric scooter in terms of the person?s specific needs.
Electric scooters range in size and features from models with bicycle-like frames to larger models that closely resemble the popular gasoline-powered motor scooters. Many electric scooters, however, are heavier than many electric bicycles that have the same range and speed. Many ebikes reach speeds of 20 mph and have ranges as high as 50 miles before requiring a recharge.
Electric bicycles and scooters differ in terms of safety features. Many electric scooters are equipped with horns and mirrors, while the bicycles are not. Electric bicycles, however, have larger wheels and weigh less. Because of the difference in wheel size, a tire blowout on an electric scooter has the potential to be more dangerous than a similar incident on an electric bicycle.
Give Your Carport Another Purpose
August 15, 2009
Adding a carport to your house is a great boost for your home equity. More importantly though, it is more about what you are able to do with your carport while you are living in you home that determines whether you should think about adding one. Most people only think of one thing when it comes to building a carport on their house – protection for a car or truck. But if were to expand your mind for a minute, I’m sure you can see that there are some very interesting alternative uses other than vehicle storage.
I friend of mine loves to entertain. His parties are legendary. He always manages to combine the right guests and food and his parties, big and small are always raved about. He lives on the west coast and regularly laments that he can’t trust the weather to cooperate with his party planning. This conundrum is experienced by many that live in British Columbia, Washington State, or Oregon State. In a flash of party planning brilliance he added a double wide carport to the side of his house!
My friend’s carport will never be used to protect his car from the elements. His carport has been transformed into an outdoor kitchen and bar area. In his situation the carport made a lot of sense as his house already had a convenient side door that entered into his kitchen. He now has an indoor kitchen and an outdoor kitchen adjacent to one another. Let the party begin.
Carports can come in all sorts of different varieties. The most common type of carport is the one that attaches to the side of your home or to the side of another structure. These types of carports generally have a single slope roof or a flat roof. The decision to have a flat roof allows you the potential to build a second story on top of the car port.
There are also free standing carports or stand alone carports. These structures are generally constructed away from the home and are generally used to store seasonal vehicles like RVs or farm equipment. Some creative souls have constructed free standing carports for use as picnic shelters. In this manner the carport is used much like a gazebo.
Figuring out other uses for you carport is really only limited by your imagination, and with the help of a few novel ideas found while surfing the internet, get ready to take your extra outdoor storage space beyond it’s intended utilitarian function, and get ready to create some fabulous outdoor party memories!
Auto Protection How to Save Your Life and Your Car
August 15, 2009
Every young person looks forward to the day when he or she gets their drivers license. Oh the freedom that day brings! And greater still is the day when they buy their own automobile. Now life really begins for them. However, cars can be scary, too. In fact, they can be downright lethal, if you haven’t taken the proper auto protection precautions. We’re talking about things to do to protect your car from being the victim of crime, as well as things you should do to protect yourself while you’re using your car.
Let’s talk first about systems to install in your car to fight off would-be thieves. To do this, you need modern, state-of-the-art car security systems. We’re talking about something that will alert when someone tries to open your vehicle without your permission. A car security system is generally designed to work with the maximum types of vehicles, however, it’s possible to get one customized specifically for your own car. Of course, each car has its own concerns. Because of this, car makers create different sorts of auto protection systems. Here are a few of the best ones.
First on our list of helpful auto protection devices is something called an audible security system. As the name implies, whenever the car’s doors or windows are touched, an audible alarm sounds. This alarm is loud enough for people sometimes blocks around to hear. The down side of this system is that many times, the alarm is triggered by someone simply close to the vehicle. How many times have you heard a vehicle alarm and ignored it, because you felt it was probably a false alarm? This is true of many people; they’ve trained themselves to ignore these, because they so often go off erroneously.
A second type of auto protection device is the inaudible security system, or private alert. This one, as the name suggests, doesn’t get the public’s attention. Instead, if someone breaks into an owner’s car, he or she receives a beep or private message to tell them of the situation. The downside of this one is that there is little the owner can do if they’re too far away from where the car was left.
An ignition system immobilizer is the third major auto protection security system. This one does its job by shutting down the car if the would-be driver does not correctly enter a security code assigned to it. Of course, the down side here is that even if you’re the owner, if you forget the code, you won’t be able to drive the car.
All of these systems have down sides, but all will also go far to protecting your car when used correctly. But what about the people inside the car? Let’s talk about some items you should keep in or with your car to protect yourself.
One is a roadside kit. This needs to include a small tool kit, road flares, a red flag for tying to your antenna, a flashlight, and a small fire extinguisher. It’s also wise to keep a jack and jumper cables in this kit. Speaking of kits, you should also have a first aid kit to help with possible medical emergencies. The kit should contain bandages, scissors, medical tape, rubber gloves, antibiotic ointment, alcohol swabs, painkillers, and a CPR mask. A third kind of kit is an emergency kit, for use if you get stranded for a long time. It should contain water, energy food bars, and a blanket.
All of the purchases above will run a little money, but they are great investments, in not just your own health and safety but your car’s as well.
How To Make A Used Car Look New
August 15, 2009
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the purchases of used cars. This is partly due to the difficult economic climate which has caused many people to trim their budgets. Many who have used cars want to make the car look as though it is new. Whether you want to sell your used car, or make it look new, there a number of things you can do to give your car a great make-over.
Before you begin any work on your car, you should carefully inspect it to look for any damage or blemishes that may require repair. Evaluate both the interior and exterior of the car. Look for scratches, dents, chipped paint, damage to the upholstery, etc. It is important to look under the car for any gas or oil leaks. If you have extra money, get a mechanic to look at the car.
After examination, the following tips will help make your used car look new:
1. The exterior of the car is the first thing a person sees so it is essential to repair and thoroughly clean it. You want to make the paint look new. You can seal and cover any rusted areas by applying a coat of paint. A quality spray paint is a good choice. If you have any loose-fitting parts, have a mechanic fix them. If the parts are in very poor condition, replace them. Scratches can be sanded and applied with paint. Make sure you have filled any chips in the rear view mirrors. As well, make sure the paint matches the paint with the rest of the car. Once the repairs are done and any wet areas have completely dried, wash and wax the car.
2. Check your tires. Are they badly tarnished or are the treads severely worn? You may have to replace some tires. There are special products that can clean tires and bring out the shine.
3. With the interior of the car, clear out any trash that has been accumulating. Vacuum and clean the interior of the car. Make sure you clean in the crevices and under the seats. The best method to make the interior of your car sparkle is to dust, clean, and apply a polisher. Clean every part of the inside of the car, including the air vents. Add an air freshener. For the upholstery, thoroughly clean any stains. Fix any tears in the upholstery.
4. Look for any old or missing car devices such as windshield wipers, lights, trim, ashtrays, etc. Replace any item that makes the car look damaged or of poor quality.
5. Check to see how well the car is running. Are the brakes squealing? Is the muffler loud? How old is the battery? You may have to have some repairs done or replace some devices. You can also clean the motor, change the oil, add lube to various parts, and fasten loose wires.
We all enjoy shiny brand new cars. It is important to be aware of the fact that just because you have a used car, it does not mean that it has to look like a used car. Proper repairs and cleaning can make any used car look almost brand new.
