Vegetable Oil As Fuel, Can It Be Possible?

October 31, 2009

Yes, Vegetable oil as fuel is now possible. Back in the 1900s this new idea was introduced at the World’s Fair by the Otto Company showing that they had an engine running on pure peanut oil. The idea was researched and studied by Rudolph Diesel himself that vegetable oil can be used as an alternative fuel in engines.

But wait! Before you go running down to the local store and purchase gallons upon gallons of vegetable oil and go pouring into your car think twice because it doesn’t work quite that simple. Vegetable oil is thicker than standard oil or gasoline so it must be mixed or diluted with something so that is flows through properly.

This incomplete atomization can cause problems with engine reliability. Incomplete atomization results in incomplete combustion, which results in heavy carbon, build up in the engine which leads to engine failure.

There are several different methods that have been tried to fix the problem such as diluting or mixing the vegetable oil with diesel or kerosene. There are many companies on the market that will sell you hundreds of dollars worth of solvents to complete the atmoization but they don’t work it all must be done properly in order to function correctly.

The new and easiest way to use the two tank system is by placing diesel fuel in one side and the other with vegetable oil with the proper heating elements and proper combinations the two can be mixed together and therefore run your vehicle just like putting gas into your car now.

Newer engines made to run on vegetable oils use a single tank system which involves the use of modified fuel injectors, more injector pressure, stronger glow plugs, and other engine modifications to provide seamless vegetable oil burning. Specially designed pre-heaters bring the vegetable oil to the optimum temperature prior to its being inducted into the fuel system. These new single tank systems are truly switch on and go, switch off and stop, even in cold temperatures.

So the answer to the question is that yes vegetable oil is an alternative to fossil fuel. With today’s new technologies it is becoming possible to run your diesel engine flawlessly on vegetable oil without the problems with the older systems. As well as fueling your car more economically it will also save you money in the long run and be better on your car than diesel fuel or gasoline. Don’t you want to be able to keep your car as long as possible?
