Vehicle Roofracks
December 9, 2009
As is clearly attested to by the extremely broad ownership of motor vehicles in our country, we are a nation of car lovers that dreams of the wide open road. It is the aspiration of practically any person in the nation to eventually own their very own vehicle. The American dream itself involves the search for a better and bigger life out on the open road, which is where our national fascination with road trips has evolved from. Yet if a person is to undertake a truly long and adventuresome road trip then it becomes necessary to somehow bring a fair deal of personal possessions of one sort or another along for the ride. From that basic necessity was born the car roofrack, now to be seen on tons of cars on the nation’s roadways.
The majority of vehicles out on the road are ordinary passenger vehicles with very limited storage space, which is why some genius oh-so long ago had the brilliant notion of turning his roof into a new trunk. By installing a roofrack on one’s car, a person can increase the amount of items they bring with them on the road, free up precious space inside the vehicle for greater comfort and safer driving, and even have a means of traveling with one’s bulky sports gear (like bikes, surf boards, kayaks, etc.).
The kind of roofrack a person installs on their car will in large part be determined by precisely what it is they plan on storing in it, or on it, as the case may be. Simple, conventional roofracks are available for merely packing some extra clothing and light objects, whereas more heavy duty roofracks are in order for mounting your extreme sporting gear or other large and heavy objects.
Furthermore, the kind of roofrack you put atop your car will be determined by what kind of car you have, and what its roof is like. Older car models generally were built with the roof gutters that can easily be used for mounting a roofrack, whereas in modern models these elements have largely been forsaken. Even though you may not have the necessary components built into your vehicle, in most cases there is a way to safely and securely fix a roofrack on your car.
On the one hand, many roofracks are installed on the roof ribs or gutters that many cars come equipped with; on the other hand, for vehicles where the roof is devoid of such features, it is possible to fit clamps or hooks into the door opening in just the right way to achieve a safe set up.
To securely mount a roofrack on your car you will need to have two roof rails running parallel to the car’s sides and at least one (though in some cases two or three) cross bar connecting them. The cross bar cannot be overlooked, as it is quite literally the foundation of a safe roofrack, and without it there is no guarantee of security.
For cars that lack these sorts of rails there is the possibility of installing them on your own, and kits are sold for exactly that purpose. When done properly, these self-install roof rails neither compromise your vehicle’s safety nor change its outward appearance in the least bit.
Don’t just settle for any kind of roofrack, and make sure that the one you choose is suited to the use you have in mind. Don’t use the same roofrack to load an extra suitcase or bag that you plan on using to haul each of your family members’ mountain bikes with!

Installing 6×9 Car Speakers
December 9, 2009
Not all 6×9 car speakers will fit every car, even if they all will have surface area that is around 6 inches long and 9 inches wide. Several companies produce speakers in the 6 by 9 range, so there are a lot of price ranges to look in. If you do not have experience working on electrical units, it may be a better idea to have someone else install them or to get advice from someone who has had experience before.
The back section of the speakers can have different dimensions depending on model, so ensuring that the speakers you are going to buy will actually fit into your car is important. The best way you can do this is to take your car to an auto parts or audio specialization store and tell them which type of 6×9 car speakers you would like to buy. They should be able to tell you whether they can be installed in you car or not. You can also check specifications online to see if they will fit. There is a whole world of websites online that can tell you if speakers will fit into your car model or not.
A variety of companies manufacture 6×9 car speakers, and though you do not have to have the brand of the speakers match the brand of your stereo, it could very well make some of the installation process itself easier. In some cases, you could be less likely to need additional pieces to connect the speakers to the stereo system. The system’s overall sound quality may also be improved by having the brands of your stereo and your speakers match. Sony, Insignia, Pioneer, Kenwood, and JVC are all popular speaker producing companies.
Most stores which sell car speakers will also install them into your car. Dealing with your car’s electrical system can be difficult and is most often something that is best left to trained professionals and experts. Professionals have not only done this type of installation numerous times previously, but the work they do is most likely also guaranteed in some way. If something happens to go wrong during the installation, they will also be the ones responsible for fixing it, so you won’t have to worry about that. They will also have the required tools for the job, most of which most people do not normally keep at home. Some stores may offer reduced prices if you purchase the car stereo components and have them installed at the same time.
Whether you are thinking about replacing old and blown out 6×9 car speakers or thinking about upgrading the factory sound system, finding high quality 6×9 car speakers should be easy. It is important to ensure that the speakers that you want will fit in your car model. In case you are intending to have the speakers professionally installed, check to see if the store you will be buying them from will also install them for you. It is possible to save a good amount of money by having the store professionals install the system themselves.
