January 28, 2010
The following article shows how to connect a battery isolator. The isolator is installed when the car needs a second battery. This will be required by cars that have bigger stereos. Since more power is needed second battery is added with the help of an isolator.
First of to do this we require a few tools and that includes a battery, a blue ring terminals, a battery isolator, a self tapping screw, needle nosed pliers, wire crimpers, a 12 volt test light , wire cutter finally a few wire strippers and a terminal crimping tool. These tools help us finish the job in a neat and a lot quicker.
Open the front hood and place the secondary battery in its corresponding tray using a 3/8 inch socket and ratchet. Make sure the battery is properly in position and should not be kept tilted. Using a driller mount the battery isolator then connect the terminal of battery isolator to the positive terminal of the battery using a battery cable. The wire connecting the battery and isolator are stripped and held in position using the 3/8 inch ratchet and socket.
Now the positive terminal of the secondary battery is connected to the other terminal of the isolator the wires are held in position using the socket and ratchet.
The wire strippers are used to strip inch off the other end of the 18 gauge wire. A ring terminal is crimped on to the end of the wire using the wire crimpers. the wire is connected to the ignition terminal on the battery isolator using a 3/8 inch ratchet and socket.
After the connections is checked strip the one end of the lengthy wire using a wire stripper and clamp it with a ring type crimper and fix it to the battery isolator’s ignition terminal using the socket and ratchet. For grounding run a wire from the ground terminal of the isolator the the ground point on the frame and bolt the wires to ensure a tight connection.
A wire fixed on the frame near to the passenger is a good ground point. Both the ends of the wires are fixed with a ring terminal by using a wire crimper and then it is connected to the ground using a 3/8 ratchet and socket. A four gauge wire is run from the second battery’s negative terminal to the ground. By doing all these the second battery can be made to charge.

CD Troubleshooting Can Be Done By You
January 28, 2010
After the technology has given such a boost in the field of music, if the CD player stops working suddenly, it makes us worried and also people are prepared to shell out large sums of money to repair it though the problem may be simple. A journey with no music would be out of the question these days. Hence repairing a music system can be done by the user by following simple steps. But how is car CD troubleshooting done? There are mainly three types of inspection needed to find out the error in the player. The first step is to narrow down the trouble by following few other steps, checking the wire connection is another primary things to be done and checking for trouble in the playback of the CD.
Troubleshooting involving diagnosis and then fixing it by finding the cause for the problem. First step involves focusing on a specific problematic area . Next step would be to check if the connections are proper and the last step is to troubleshoot. Let us look at each step in detail
The first step is to determine where the problem is. Check whether it is in the radio or music player and the like. This can be done immediately by playing the radio. If the radio works it shows that there is some technical fault with the player. The speakers must also be checked if both are playing properly or if any one of the speakers is not.
Another important things is to check proper connection of power cable to the speakers. Security is also a major concern. So always ensure that if power cable is connected only to positive terminal . It is also necessary to check if the CD player does not work properly because the fuse inside the glass is blown out . So always check the fuse box of the power cable. So by checking out these things our problem gets narrowed down.
Another possibility might be due to the damaged connections. To check this, the wires can be connected to electric meter which is available in shops. This electric meter gives a reading if there is power supply. Therefore if the wires are not connected properly or have disconnected somewhere it will show no reading. The wires can be obtained but removing the player after unscrewing the speakers.
The last thing that needs to be checked is the harness of the wiring under the dash board . Use flash light to do this. If everything is fine, the positive cable is disconnected from the battery of the car and leave it like that for a minimum of ten minutes. This time gap is given for the player to come back to the conditions in which it was preset in the factory.
If any playback problem is present, the harness of the player must be checked. If there is no problem with the harness the connections can be removed from the battery for few minutes. This would reset the controls and might be helpful in solving issues.
One need not head to the service as soon as he encounters a problem in car CD troubleshooting, these simple steps would be like a initial check for your car CD player.

Toyota Recall
January 27, 2010
Toyota has just begun its largest recall ever with over four million Lexus and Toyota models identified with possible safety problems. In the autumn of 2009 the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NTHSA) received a flurry of reports that floor mats on the driver’s side were becoming dislodged and making the accelerator pedal stick
The problem received national notice when a policeman and his family were killed. Because of a jammed gas pedal, yhe officer’s Lexus sped above 120mph and crashed. It appears that the vehicle couldn’t be stopped by the brakes alone.
Toyota responded by issuing a safety alert recommending that vehicle owners remove the driver’s side floor mats and not replace them until Toyota could study the trouble further. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration also strongly urged car owners to remove mats or any other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration. Here are the cars and trucks with potential safety issues:
* 2005 – 2010 Toyota Tacoma
* 2005 – 2010 Toyota Avalon
* 2007 – 2010 Toyota Camry
* 2007 – 2010 Toyota Camry
* 2007 – 2010 Toyota Camry
* 2007 – 2010 Lexus ES350
* 2004 – 2009 Toyota Prius
Lexus and Toyota service technicians have undergone training and are now equipped to make the required adjustments to these models. Although it would seem to be an effortless repair; just replace the flawed floor mats with a more efficient design, the safety of their vehicles is a top priority to Toyota. Therefore, technicians will actually modify the gas pedal and in some models will also install a brake override system.
Beginning in April 2010 there will be accelerator pedal replacement part available for those customers that would like to have it installed. Toyota has begun issuing recall letters instructing car owners to bring their vehicles in for repair and they anticipate their service departments to be flooded. To help reduce the inconvenience many Toyota Dealerships are offering rental cars to owners affected by the recall.
The official Toyota website offers more information about the Toyota/Lexus recall including overall safety of both. For further information Toyota customers can contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus Customer Assistance at 1-800-255-3987.
Remember to make sure this repair has been done if you are considering purchasing a used Toyota.

Following Traffic Law And Knowing About Speeding Tickets
January 27, 2010
Getting a speeding ticket is one of the many ways you can violate traffic law. You can also get a parking ticket, which involves most non-moving crimes. Speeding tickets are far more popular in the world of crimes, but the punishment can change based on where you are in the world.
You could get points against your license, which is very bad for for your driving career in the long run. Fines or double fines are very common, but more serious charges can be brought for more serious crimes–or in places that do not tolerate speeders. Often these punishments are doled out in some combination together, making a speeding ticket a very undesirable acquisition.
The more minor crimes include going over the speed limit, not following safety protocol inside the car, not coming to a full stop, or having an expired inspection ticket. Speeding tickets are the most common because they are the easiest for police officers to see and possibly the most dangerous of all of these. They also can have the largest fines, especially if you speed in hospital areas or construction zones.
The more major crimes include things like being completely out of control (if your car is all over the road), speeding way above the speed limit (up to the officer’s discretion), evading arrest, or driving under the influence. These things all commonly go hand-in-hand with simple speeding tickets. For this, the punishments are far higher and the motorist usually ends up with some sort of conviction in addition to fines.
It also depends on your history. If you have been charged with the same crime or several related crimes, you will not be looked upon very favorably. Sometimes first-time offenders are let off the hook. And you will really be in trouble if you have not paid previous tickets. If you get a fine–just pay it. Those tickets can haunt you and follow you around for years if you do not.
The United States allows drivers to get ten points against their licenses before the license is suspended. Some people think this is being too soft on speeders, since speeding usually only gives you a point or two. Bigger crimes can get you an automatic suspension, though. And if you have suspended your license twice, you better hope you do not get pulled over again, because it will be irrevocably taken from you.
People do not take speeding crimes seriously enough. It is extremely dangerous and most of us are all just very lucky that we have not been hurt or caught. But because we all take it so lightly, a speeding ticket is something we will all probably experience at some point or another.
Always Fight any New Jersey traffic ticket or New York traffic ticket, demerit points is a direct cause for insurance increase.
How To Find The Best Rates On Car Rentals
January 26, 2010
In a perfect world, renting a car would be a straightforward process. Unfortunately, with all of the surcharges and fees that are tacked onto car rental rates, the process of trying to get the most for your money can get confusing and time-consuming. When a person needs to rent a car, whether for a vacation or business purposes, there is really no way around it, so it pays to be a smart consumer by doing extensive research and gaining a full understanding of the various added expenses that are involved. Before jumping into a car rental agreement, consider a few of the tips below that will help you realize the best rates possible.
When you are looking for a rental the first thing that you should do is research deals and special offers. Once you have found some deals and offers you should then contact each individual company to get a true cost for your rental. The true cost you receive should include any additional fees and taxes that you will be required to pay. You should also check on the Internet for customer satisfaction rates to ensure that you are dealing with an honest and reputable company.
Utilize bidding Web sites There are several sites on the Internet that allow consumers to pick their price for rental cars. These services can help save a bunch of cash, or at the very least, one may be able to rent a luxury car for an economy price.
Know what the rental companies will try to add onto your cost. There are a lot of extras that a rental company will try to include with your car rental. It is important to be aware of these additional cost and make sure that they are not added unless you agree to them. For example, some rental companies will insist that you take out additional renter insurance on your rental vehicle. This insurance is usually not necessary and should not be excepted unless you will not be covered by your personal insurance, which most customers are. By being aware that you do not require this insurance you can save yourself an average of $25 per rental day. Also, if one of the individuals traveling is under 25 years of age, they should not be the ones that rent the vehicle. Prices are greater for renter that are under this age, so if you have someone over 25 they should be the one listed on the rental contract.
Comparison shop and ask for discounts Be sure to compare the rates of several different companies, as prices for renting the same vehicle can vary by up to 25%. Check online prices versus over-the-phone prices, and it never hurts to beg for a discount. Many types of credit, store, and service company cards offer rental car discounts to their card-holders.

How Active Crossover works
January 26, 2010
Crossovers are a very important part of the stereo system of the car. They are generally meant to filter the signal by allowing a particular frequency and send it to the amplifier to give a clear audio with maximum clarity. There are two types of crossovers passive and active. The passive crossovers have the possibility of causing loss of volume due to disturbance and are also considered to be hard to control and adjust it. They are placed between the amplifier and speaker. On the other hand the active crossovers remove the line signal and provide a better sound quality. The adjustment of the active crossovers is comparatively easier to adjust. Since the active crossovers play an important role in providing clear audio, this article discusses some directions on how to set up active crossover.
First the crossover is mounted between the system’s amplifiers and the stereo unit. If it is not planned to adjust the crossover after installing, the crossovers are placed in back of the race panels and that option is considered to be good. The cross over unit is installed near the amplifier and so the access to control it can be made easy.
Next the audio signals are connected from the crossover’s inputs of the audio system to the stereo unit. Each crossover band’s outputs are connected to the respective amplifier. Path between subwoofer amps and low signal is routed. For the tweeters high signals are routed.
The audio signal is then connected from the stereo to the crossover. The inputs in the crossover are connected to the stereo and the outputs to the amplifier in such a way that the low signal and high signal are connected to subwoofer amplifier and the tweeters respectively.
A link to the ground should be made to the car’s chassis. To avoid drainage from the cross overs battery an electrical signal must be made to run. The low pass filter of the cross over can be set at 80 Hz. Only frequencies like bass and kick drum having a frequency of 80 Hz or below can pass through. This kind of filter setting is essential for using sub woofer routed from the output.
Then the high pass filter’s crossover point is set at 3000 HZ so that it would be easy to send high frequencies like Cymbals and acoustics harmonics to the tweeters.
The next step is to set band pass filter. This is set between the low and high pass.
The final step is to make sure the system is set up properly. This can be done by playing some music and adjusting the filters in such a way that is comfortable to listen. Once these steps are followed the audio clarity is improved. Therefore these directions on how to set up active crossover would be useful for setting up the crossovers and improve the quality of the audio.
