The Benefits Of Lexus 450h
March 26, 2010
Lexus offers in the RX 450h, the first successful combination of high performance and the hybrid benefits of fuel economy and low emissions. Other hybrids use supplementary electric motor power simply to boost the performance of the petrol engine. RX 450h is a full hybrid, capable of operation in both petrol and electric modes alone, or both. It is user-friendly and gives energy-saving benefits and the remarkable acceleration performance.
On the other hand, comprehensive enhancements to all the components of the system have dramatically improved efficiency, resulting in a 10 per cent increase in engine power and a 28 per cent reduction in fuel consumption. The improvements to achieve improved performance, drivability, fuel economy, noise and emissions include adoption of the Atkinson combustion cycle, Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Exhaust Heat Recovery (EHR), New Power Control Unit, increased front, rear motor torque, reduced friction losses in hybrid transaxle, Eco and EV driving modes and artificial intelligence shift control.
The DOHC petrol engine, specifically tailored to be used in the hybrid power train, is the part of it. The engine is similar to RX 350. The engine yields a maximum 246bhp (249 DIN hp) at 6,000rpm and 317Nm of torque at 4,800rpm. It possesses an entirely new power control unit having a new inverter. It is relatively smaller and lightweight than the earlier unit. The new inverter facilitates a two way cooling, thus the better cooling efficiency boosts up the power density by 40 percent. It has achieved a better fuel economy by reducing the PCU power loses.
The Artificial Intelligence AI-SHIFT control has been adopted on a hybrid vehicle for the very first time. The system concludes even when the vehicle is travelling up or downhill by comparing vehicle pace with accelerator pedal perspective. The transmission then selects the appropriate shift range to preserve engine rpm at a best possible speed.
The fuel efficiency and performance of the RX 450h are further improved by the adoption of three new driving modes ECO, EV and SNOW. An all-new body shell with high torsion rigidity gives the RX 450h a 20mm increase in wheelbase and 60mm increase in track compared to the RX 400h. 19-inch wheels improve stability of the vehicle. It offers the comfort and composure of a premium saloon, combining responsive handling and agility on zigzag roads with stability.
The RX 450h has all-new rear suspension and a significantly revised front suspension, which improves its dynamic abilities without sacrificing the well-known ride comfort of the Lexus. Braking with confidence, which is an essential element, Lexus engineers optimized the braking effectiveness, controllability and rigidity of the RX 450h.
RX 450h represents the latest of L-finesse design philosophy of Lexus. L-finesse combines leading edge and finesse to encapsulate the values of the Lexus brand. Interiors perfectly complement the aerodynamic purity of the exterior. The interior of the new RX 450h is more spacious, with an increase of 52mm between armrests, 10mm in the front to rear seat couple distance, and 10mm in the length of the cargo bay. The RX 450h features new Side Monitor, in addition to its Rear View and Parking Assist monitors.
The vehicle features 40GB HDD capacity navigation system. The entire road and rail network in the European countries is based on this navigation system. Thus, the RX 450h by virtue of its outstanding body strength, and reliable safety improvements, it has laid high standards for the active, and passive safety over the entire European market.
